Welcome to Pro-Vas Occlusion - A Less-Invasive Alternative to Vasectomy
The introduction of the no-scalpel vasectomy marked a major advancement for vasectomy, not only because it provided improved outcomes such as reduced incidence of infection, bleeding and pain, but also because it made the idea of a vasectomy more appealing to men and significantly increased the number of men who were willing to undergo the procedure.
Vasectomy has come to be thought of as a highly effective procedure with few complications. Undoubtedly in the hands of a skilled surgeon who employs the most effective techniques, it is. However, a review of the medical literature which sometimes reports on the results obtained accross a range of techniques or surgical skill level, one quickly realizes that taken as a whole, there remains room for improvement.
The efficacy of vasectomy as reported in the medical literature ranges from 71% to over 99%. Complications rate also vary widely from less than a percent to 18% for hematoma and infection and 2.2% to 15% for chronic testicular pain. What these widely varying results suggest is that a standardized approach for performing vas occlusion is called for. It has been proposed that Pro-Vas Occlusion might provide such a standardized approach.
