Pro-Vas Occlusion
This new least-invasive alternative to vasectomy can be performed using the no-scalpel technique and further reduces traumas to the male anatomy by avoiding the need to cut or cauterize the vas deferens (“vas”). Since the vas is left intact there is is less likelihood of bleeding, and less chance of sperm granuloma. The Pro-Vas™ Occlusion Device capitalizes on the proven reliability of titanium spring ligation clips used for neuroaneurysms. The positive pressure imposed by the clip insures that the vas stays occluded in spite of swelling, muscular contractions, or other changes that could result in recanalization with standard stationary clips (e.g. Hemaclip®).
In principle, fewer manipulations (less trauma) to the body results in less discomfort and reduced complications. Additionally, men appreciate leaving their anatomy intact and not having to severe their vas deferens. For many men, it just seems like the more logical solution.
The effectiveness of using the Pro-Vas applier for permanent male sterilization has not been evaluated in comparison to standard vasectomy procedures.
