THE PROCEDURE
A No-Scalpel Pro-Vas Occlusion procedure is identical to a no-scalpel vasectomy up to the point where a small loop of vas deferens is exposed outside your scrotum. At this point, instead ligating, excising (removing) a section of your vas and cauterizing the ends, your surgeon will simply apply a small titanium spring clip on your vas. It’s a bit like analogous to putting a clothes-pin on a drinking-straw to occlude it. Once the Pro-Vas clip is applied to your vas deferens, the vas is returned to your scrotum and the same process is repeated on the other side. You should have no significant scare after the procedure and you will most likely but back to your normal activities within a couple of days.
You will need to continue using alternative forms of birth control until after your doctor has approved your semen analysis and cleared you for unprotected intercourse. Remember that some sperm still exist in your system “down-stream” from the point where the vas was occluded. These sperm must be purged from the system before you will be ready to validate the success of the procedure using a semen analysis. Generally the waiting period for the first semen analysis is 6-weeks and after at least 20 ejaculations.
